Why is it when you are so busy that you shouldn't take on one more thing, you take on a really big thing? Yes, a really big thing. Well, I guess she's really not that big at 25 pounds. For us though, it means we adopted a new puppy. Okay, puppy isn't quite right either. She is one and a half years young. Still, I thought about it on Friday, mentioning it to my dog savvy sister, and Saturday we were adopting!
Enter Finley, a Whippet, who is amazing. We are so in love! See, we lost our beloved Italian Greyhound, Jib, in August. And oh, how we cried. Balled. Felt depressed. Didn't think we'd ever get over it. Then slowly we erased all signs of him from our lives. Cleaned the window that held his nose prints. Vacuumed the rug, no more footprints. Gave away his bed. His toys. We didn't think we could go through that kind of heartbreak ever again. I said no more dogs EVER and he agreed. We both were so sure.
But the house was so empty. The bed too.
So Saturday we went just to look. Really? Just look? No one ever does just that. Once you zero in, hear that this poor doggie needs a home, and you look into those eyes, well, you're toast. Did I mention that we are over the moon? That includes our dear Finley. Uhhh, hmmmm. We are a pretty terrific place for a dog to live, after all. And we are pretty sure our dearly departed Jib, or Jibby as we fondly called him, is smiling down at us, giving us a nod of approval.
